Nutraceuticals and foods of interestMy research interest is focused on investigation of pharmacological properties, molecular targets, and action mechanisms of natural bioactive compounds, focusing attention on their preventive and anti-cancer activities and on their effects on cell metabolism and, therefore, their exploitation in metabolic diseases. To date I have been involved mainly in the study of antioxidants and anti- inflammatory nutrients present in Mediterranean diet Phenols and antioxidant compounds present in EVOO and in nutrients of Mediterranean diet. natural principles of Mediterranean plants that may have nutraceutical potential Fields of application Cell metabolism, cancer and metabolic diseases Facilities and equipments the research group operates at the IRIB Institute, where are available all the basic equipment for biochemical and molecular biology analysis as well as for bioimaging studies; moreover, it makes use of numerous collaborations including one with the medical school of the university of Palermo with which clinical trials are also underway for the evaluation of the effects of EVOO on metabolism |
