Research Interest and expertise in the field of nutraceuticals and functional food
My research activity has focused on developing in-vitro cell systems by means of smooth muscle, endothelial cells, and cardiomyocytes for studying cardiovascular diseases and the applications of bioengineered approaches to the cardiac and vascular fields. I am Head of the Laboratory of Biomimetic Materials and Engineering of Biological Tissues and the Laboratory of Cell Culture.

Keywords: cell culture, cell function, bioreactor, regenerative medicine

Nutraceuticals and foods of interest
Currently, I’m involved in a POR-FESR project (SOFIA - vaScular mOdel For In-vitro cAlcification) on the design and testing of a dynamic in-vitro model of vessels for the study of vascular calcifications and the use of nutraceuticals (tyrosol, quercetin, ferulic acid, berberine) to prevent and/or limit their evolution.

Fields of application
Development of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) to mimic human pathophysiological conditions

Facilities and equipments
Cell culture laboratory, spectrofluorometer, luminometer, optical microscope with video acquisition and thermostatic system, fluorescence microscope
