Research Interest and expertise in the field of nutraceuticals and functional food
My research interest is to understand how the environmental growth conditions are able to enhance the nutritional properties of food. Particular attention is on the effects of the quantity and quality light changes (red, far-red and blue) on the production of specific substances of nutritional interest and of non-nutrient molecules with biological activity. Moreover, genome editing approach is undertaken to modify metabolic pathways of interest through the manipulation of key molecules.

Keywords: environment, nutrition, bioactive molecule, genome editing

Nutraceuticals and foods of interest
Brassicaceae; Tomato; Lettuce

Fields of application
Nutraceutics

Facilities and equipments
The laboratory is equipped for the molecular biology of plants, microscopy (stereomicroscope, differential interference contrast (DIC) and fluorescence microscope), micropropagation and in vitro culture in aseptic conditions. Moreover, climatic chambers for the growth of plant material in standard light condition or under specific light condition are available. In particular the lab is equipped with a chamber that allows plant growth in different light quality regimes changing the intensity of LEDs emitting in the red or far red or blue.
