Research Interest and expertise in the field of nutraceuticals and functional food
Cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and hypolipidemic roles of natural polyphenols (e.g., Quercetin and Hydroxytyrosol) in chronic liver disease [nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)], and Alzheimer's Disease (AD), through in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro approaches leveraging mouse models of AD and alternative in vitro platforms (i.e., liver-on-chip and 3D bioprinted hepatic models) as well as nanoformulated drug delivery systems (i.e., nano-encapsulation of nutraceuticals).

Keywords: Nutraceuticals; Polyphenols; Flavonoids; Hepatic Steatosis; Metabolism; Oxidative Stress; Antioxidants; Anti-inflammatory; Neuroinflammation; Neurodegeneration.

Nutraceuticals and foods of interest
Nutraceuticals: Quercetin (polyphenolic flavonoid); Hydroxytyrosol (metabolite of Oleuropein). Foods: apples, grapes, berries, citrus fruits, cherries, broccoli, capers, green tea, coffee, red wine, green olives, extra virgin olive oil.
