Research Interest and expertise in the field of nutraceuticals and functional food
Analysis of the biological properties and underlying molecular mechanisms of nutraceuticals and functional foods in cellular models of atherosclerotic and inflammatory diseases. Nutrigenomic analysis of bioactive compounds of the Mediterranean diet in human vascular endothelial cells, enterocytes, adipocytes and immune cells.

Nutraceuticals and foods of interest
Phenolic compounds including phenolic acids, flavonoids, stilbenes, hydroxytyrosol, oleuropein. Phenolic extracts from functional foods rich in polyphenols and related by-products (cereals, legumes, coffee, olive oil, red wine, red grape skin, grape pomace), as well as, from functional foods fortified with polyphenols (beverages, whole wheat biofortified bread). Metabolism of phenolic extracts by intestinal epithelial cells and polyphenol metabolites.

Cell culture facility and equipment (laminar flow hood, CO2 incubator and inverted phase contrast microscope with digital camera).
